What law do you cover?
Pure law covers all law, excluding employment, tax and esoteric specialisms such as shipping law. If we are not happy to take your instructions, we shall tell you and refund your money immediately.
How soon do you provide a report?
The deadline is given in the order details. We aim to report within three working days. Often, we can deliver much faster. If for any reason, it is likely to take more than three days, we will tell you and give you the opportunity to cancel your order and have your account credited.
What if my requirement is very urgent?
A £20 expedition fee will put you at the top of the queue. However, we advise you to test the service first. You will not often have to pay for our fast response.
What is included in the report?
Each Pure Law report provides you with:
- your reference
- your user reference
- your client reference
- report tile, as given by you
- date
- cost
- the research report.
How comprehensive is your report?
Two factors restrict the scope of a report: first, we work at approximately £25 per hour, so we are limited by the amount you have paid. Second, we work from readily accessible material. Our researchers do consult additional material, including case law, but we give no warranty as to the completeness.
Do you provide advice or can I use your report as advice?
Our service is legal research. Sometimes, there will be an element of opinion in what we report. We leave you, as the lawyer, to apply it to your clients affairs and to advise. How you use our report is a matter entirely for you. However, our terms explicitly exclude liability for advising anyone, including you.
Can I speak to the person who prepares my report?
Generally, no. We do not deal except by email. We do not discuss the law. However, if you become a regular user of this service, we could make a special arrangement for telephone contact. We do not accept an instruction by telephone, no matter how urgent.
Do you quote sources I can look up or give to "the other side"?
Yes, provided you ask in your instruction and buy enough time to enable us to provide this information.
Please spell out exactly what data you keep and what you might do with it.
Please read our privacy policy. We comply with all known law and protocols on use of information. We do not sell or disclose information to any person outside of this website and others in the same ownership, namely World Lawyer List and CredCalc.
So far as “The law" is interpreted by the experience of practitioner, how you present the law on a matter with a big element of practical experience?
We simply do the best we can. We prefer that you instruct us to “find the law”. Our service does not include the giving of advice. However, there may sometimes be an element of judgement in one of our reports, depending on how you instructed us.
Can you check and add to our work already done?
Of course. The process is the same.
How can I comment on the service?
Your comments are very welcome either positive or not. You can use “contact us” for this purpose. We can assure you that your comments will be read with interest.
Can I set up a credit account for my firm?
No, not yet. Coming soon. For now, payment must be made in advance.
What do I do if I want more of the same?
You can top up your account at any time.
What report do you give us as to what we have paid?
We keep a record of all that you spend on the Net Lawman website in your “Account history”. By the end of May 2009, you will be able to pay on a monthly account, in arrear. The system will allow you to monitor and control all use by fee earners, and for each client case.
How do lawyers untrained in English law manage to write an authoritative text?
We do not give advice. We provide a legal research service. To a trained legal mind, the law is the law. Our solicitor team simply look up the same sources as you yourselves would use.
What are the qualifications of the researcher?
Our team are solicitors and are qualified and working in India.
Can I be sure that the info you provide covers every possible angle, argument and case, etc?
No! We provide a research service, not a legal opinion and not a statement of the law. We take the view that you are a practitioner who needs a fast answer to a particular question of law. The extent of our reply depends on how much you want to pay. It is up to you to decide how detailed you want our report to be. If, when you see our report, you want more work, we will go on digging for as long as you want to go on paying.
Can I use your work as if it is my own?
Certainly. We are merely a resource, like a book or CD.
How do I save most money by using Pure Law?
We charge by the hour. Our cost is less to you than the cost of an assistant, let alone a solicitor. Once your fee earners are accustomed to using Pure Law, they will be able to instruct us in five minutes.
What other benefit is there in using Pure Law?
First, we may be faster than your own resources.
Second, we may have access to a greater range of information and so may be able to provide a more thorough report than you could from your own resources.
Third, we can give you relief at pressure points, such as when a single case comes to a climax, leaving your staff over stretched.
Who has copyright in your work for me?
As you will know, copyright in legal texts is a complicated subject! So far only as copyright in a report is ours, we will continue to retain it. We will give you a licence to use it for 80 years in any way you wish, for the affairs of any and all your clients. We do reserve the right to publish our reports on our website. We shall not publish any part of your instruction, or any reference to you. No person will be named in a report, nor shall we publish any information which could identify any person. We hope in this way to build up a library of quick reference reports which can be used by all the World as a free resource.
